Past Opportunities

Community Survey

A community survey was open for responses from October to December 2025 and received a total of 918 responses.

Survey responses varied by area of residence in the Township. Residents in the North tend to be younger, live in more diverse housing types with smaller lots, and are generally more open to development and changes in neighborhood character. In contrast, Southwest residents are more established, often living in the Township for over 20 years on larger lots, and strongly prefer limiting development, especially around the Latson Interchange area, to preserve the area’s rural character. Southeast residents are older overall, also long-term residents, and show more openness to attainable housing options, likely reflecting interest in aging in place or keeping family nearby.

Across all areas, the survey revealed that maintaining the Township’s rural character is a top priority, with residents favoring small-scale, community-oriented businesses over intensive commercial or industrial uses, and preferring reuse of existing buildings. Traffic, road safety, and infrastructure are also key concerns, with support for improved pathways and some transit options, balanced by concerns about cost, maintenance, and environmental impact. Protecting natural resources, particularly water quality, and mitigating the impacts of increased impervious surfaces were widely supported, though opinions differ on expanding utilities to support development. Concerns about the potential for higher intensity industrial uses in the Latson Interchange Area were raised frequently and are viewed as a potential major threat to Township’s environment and community character.

More clarity may be needed on community preferences around housing density and affordability, funding for non-motorized pathways, acceptable uses in the Latson Interchange Area, and where utility expansion may be appropriate.
