Master Plan Review

In late 2022 and early 2023, the Village of Milford completed a review of the Village's 2009 Master Plan, a joint plan with Milford Township which contains the mutual vision, goals, objectives, and strategies for both communities.

Task 1: Understanding Existing Conditions

Following consideration of the review, the Village of Milford kicked off a new Master Plan process in 2023.

To set the stage, members of the Village Council, Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Planning Commission were invited to a joint visioning meeting.

Please click to view the kickoff meeting presentation and learn about the master plan process.

Participants were asked to explore potential "best" and "worst" future scenarios for the Village. The headlines are collected in a gallery below. This activity also led participants to consider what opportunities and challenges might lead to these scenarios and a set of the Village's strengths and weaknesses that could play a role. Strengths the Village can take advantage of included the downtown, effective leadership/governance, and access to parks and trails. Traffic (related to flow, ingress/egress, and trucks), Village capacity/resiliency concerns and lack of collaboration/communication were identified as weaknesses to overcome.

Key themes:

  • Vibrancy. Walkability, friendliness, community involvement as well as the success of businesses is important to the feel of the Village.
  • Traffic is a concern. Outside forces drive traffic and cannot be managed by the Village, but there may be an opportunity to manage expectations.
